What is Narrowband UVB (NB-UVB)?

Narrowband UVB (311–313 nm) is a highly targeted light treatment that uses a small part of the UVB spectrum to calm inflammation and restore skin health.

Unlike natural sunlight, which contains harmful rays, NB-UVB therapy delivers only the therapeutic wavelengths — making it safer and more effective.

Key Benefits:

  • It is the gold standard for psoriasis treatment

  • Increasingly used for Atopic Dermatitis (eczema), Vitiligo and early stage Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma

  • Helps regulate the immune system and slows abnormal skin cell growth

  • Non-invasive, well-tolerated, and safe when delivered under guidance

Moderate evidence of benefit for:

  • Lichen Planus

  • Pityriasis Lichenoides

  • Chronic Pruritus

  • Polymorphic Light Eruption

  • Pityriasis Rosea

  • Urticaria Pigmentosa

  • Localised Scleroderma

We believe that it holds the key to resolving many other health issues and we will be conducting trials to provide evidence of this.

Abstract Linear Background

Narrowband UVB therapy uses a specific wavelength of ultraviolet B light (311nm) to treat skin conditions that involve inflammation, immune dysregulation, or abnormal skin cell growth.

What are the health benefits of Blue-Light Therapy (UVB) ?

Stimulates Vitamin D Production

Stimulate Vitamin D Primary Benefit: UVB triggers the skin to convert 7-dehydrocholesterol into vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol).

  • Why It Matters:

    • Supports bone health by aiding calcium absorption

    • Regulates immune function

    • Plays a role in mood regulation and neurological function

    • Deficiency is associated with fatigue, depression, and weakened immunity

Modulates the Immune System

  • UVB light can alter the activity of T cells, dendritic cells, and cytokines in the skin.

  • Systemic effect: This modulation can influence both local and whole-body immune responses.

  • Clinical observations show that it may:

    • Suppress overactive immune responses (e.g. autoimmune pathways)

    • Improve immune balance in chronic inflammatory states

May Influence Mood

via Neuroendocrine Signaling

  • UVB exposure leads to increased beta-endorphin production in the skin, which may contribute to:

    • Mild analgesic effects (natural pain relief)

    • Enhanced mood and wellbeing

  • Some studies also suggest light-induced dopamine and serotonin regulation, though this is more studied in visible light ranges.

May Support Circadian Rhythm Regulation

  • While blue visible light primarily regulates melatonin and circadian rhythms, UVB exposure during daylight hours also contributes to:

    • Time-anchoring biological functions (body clock)

    • Supporting natural wakefulness patterns when exposure is appropriately timed

Improves Skin Barrier and Blood Flow

  • UVB can stimulate vascular dilation and increase local cutaneous blood flow

  • Encourages cell turnover and repair of the outer skin layers

  • May improve microcirculation and nutrient delivery in treated areas

Antibacterial Effects

  • Blue light has been shown to inactivate bacteria, particularly Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes) and certain drug-resistant strains like MRSA.

  • It works by triggering the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) inside bacterial cells, leading to cell death without damaging surrounding human tissue.
